One Day Course An Introduction to Scything at CECAS – 10 June

June 10 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

€75

Do you hate the noise of strimmers? Want to find a quieter, more efficient and easier way to keep on top of vegetation in gardens, fields, near water and in woodlands? The ancient craft of Scything is making a comeback and offers a great way to care for outdoor spaces without fossil fuels, leaving no pollution, wildlife friendly and making virtually no noise – plus it’s a great way to keep fit.

This one day course will be delivered by Christopher Hayes and Susanne Raven and will include:

  • An introduction to the scythe
  • Selection and set up
  • Scything safely
  • Mowing techniques
  • Maintenance and sharpening
  • Meadow management

Includes;

  • all tuition in a small group with two tutors
  • A light lunch
  • Coffee and cake on arrival

It will be best if participants bring their own Austrian style scythe, but there will be a few spares available to loan on the day or to buy if you let us know in advance.

Susanne Raven has been gardening professionally for 25 years and discovered the scythe as an excellent tool for environment friendly garden maintenance in 2019. She has since learned from various scythe tutors in Ireland and abroad and is happy to share her skill and knowledge.

Cost €75 per person

Plus two places for young people aged 18 to 25 at a reduced Cost of €50
