This half day course will introduce participants to the main identifying features of our native fern species e.g. frond shape, structure and spores. It will aim to demystify fern identification, using illustrated keys and identification guides.
Myross Wood is a rich fern habitat and we should encounter around a dozen species of relatively common ferns and possibly a couple of less common species.
The course will start with a short indoor introductory session followed by a walk around the grounds, identifying ferns in the field.
Hand lens and identification materials will be provided. Tea and coffee available.
Bring waterproofs and walking boots.
Places are limited to 12.
